The day after my 21stbirthday, while celebrating with my family and friends, I was shot 5 times, by a stranger. I have spent the past 9 year working to regain the use of my legs. Medical advances have given me a new path to restore mobility thru stem cell injections. I need your help to raise the $8,000 for medical expenses.
The day after my 21stbirthday I drove from the University of North Alabama where I was a junior, to my hometown in Huntsville, AL. My family and friends had planned a weekend of celebration that included both me and my god-brother who had been drafted into the NFL.
We decided to go to “College Night” at a local establishment and it was extremely crowded. On my way to the restroom; there were a group of guys huddled in the path and I mistakenly stepped on one of their shoes. The guy became angry during the course of the night the same group of guys followed me throughout the club pointing me out. My friends and I decided to leave the club to avoid a confrontation. As I left the club, I stopped at my friend’s car to figure out where we were going to eat.
As I was talking, I felt something brush up against my back and suddenly I felt a burning sting which turned out to be GUNSHOTS - 5 gunshots. I fell to the ground and this person shot me 4 additional times while I lay helpless. My whole life flashed before me as I laid there. I was taken to Huntsville Hospital with life threatening injuries. I went into emergency surgery to repair my kidney, liver and chest. All bullets were removed except one, the most critical one is still in my spine today. I was paralyzed from the waist down. I gained feeling back in my left leg, but not my right leg. The prognosis was grim but I was thankful God spared my life.
After spending 10 days in ICU and 14 days in a regular room, I was transferred to the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, Ga. There I was surrounded by outstanding physical therapists who helped me gain strength and the survival skills needed to adapt to my new way of living. At Shepherd, I was able to learn to walk short distances wearing a brace and using a walker. I spent 8 weeks there and returned home to Huntsville to continue daily therapy.
I have progressed from using a wheelchair to a walker. Currently, I wear a brace that allows me to walk but I can’t run or walk fast with this brace. After enduring numerous medical treatments over the last 9 years, none of them have helped repair my damaged nerves.
In August 2019, I was referred to the David Price IMAC Regeneration Center to see if I would be a good candidate for their program. This program provides stem cell injections into the spinal cavity to promote re- generation of damaged nerve cells. Prayerfully, the injections will promote feeling and movement in my right leg and foot.
The cost of the treatment program is $8,000 and months of physical therapy. I will have to pay over $2,500.00 as well as travel and hotel stays on treatment days. NFL Super Bowl Champion, Darian Stewart has started with a donation to my stem cell treatments but I still have a large amount to pay. I am seeking help from anyone that would like to donate to help me learn to run again.
God is faithful, HE has never left me and continues to show HIS love for me through others. I have been blessed beyond measure during this journey. I have a beautiful and supportive wife and two amazing children. I simply want to be able to run and jump with my children, Tycen and Ava.
Are you willing to help me reach my goal? If so, please donate!
Prayer works and Love is the Key (my mom’s daily reminder).
