I believe strongly in two things: the power of prayers and paying-it-forward.
The Spano Family has been hit tremendously hard with the unfortunate mysterious post-COVID health complications for Jeff as they have quickly exhausted their resources since the initial diagnosis in late December 2020. Jeff missed work the entire month of January with three different visits to the ER with worsening symptoms, but was negative by months end. However, he continued to have GI, balance, and inner ear issues- all resulting in extensive testing with specialized physicians for each problem. Stroke was even ‘considered’ a possibility at that point. After working with an ENT Balance Specialist, they discovered that Jeff’s right ear was 70% weaker on one side. Months of testing and working with specialists went by and he had been at Fycical (Balance Therapy) on July 6th, and he began getting sick and could not walk without support quite suddenly. He was admitted at Decatur General and they worked to rule things out by CT scans, MRIs of brain, neck, and lower back, carotid artery testing, x-rays, and extensive blood work. Still a mystery: sent home with a walker and Valium on 7/6. By 7/11, he couldn’t walk at all and was suffering full body, uncontrollable tremors and they headed to UAB where he was admitted. UAB ran a mirage of tests and transferred Jeff to Encompass Rehab Facility in Huntsville, AL on July 18th where is currently (8/4). His Neurologist, Dr. David Greer, is working to unravel this mysterious situation. He is my personal neurologist and I have learned over time that there are not always clear answers or labeled/ named diagnosis for what Jeff is experiencing or will experience. As it stands, the Spano’s insurance has covered inpatient care but future days may be denied. At that time, Jeff will be moved home for out patient home care. Jeff’s employer has paid his salary for the three weeks missed in June, minus commissions. Jeff will not receive another paycheck until he is able to work again.
Please consider assisting Heather and Jeff during their time of need. Lift them both in prayer and lend a hand in care and assistance in any way you can. It’s been a long nine months! They still do not have answers, but Jeff is working so diligently with rehabilitation to gain the strength to walk again and get back to work & spending time with Heather, family, and friends. ♥️
