Healthcare & Medication Access for the Vulnerable
Sozo Wellness Pharmacy opened just over a year ago in Fort Myers, FL to serve a community that previously was a pharmacy desert, being that the nearest pharmacy was closed to 3 miles away. This historical and predominantly African-American community, known as Dunbar is also medically underserved. Our pharmacy opened for accessibility to the residents of this community, however our expanded purpose is to the greater SW Florida area with integrative health options as support on their personal journeys to wellness. We are an all inclusive, personalized, and wellness focused pharmacy!
Since opening in the height of the Delta variant surge, we have served as a center for COVID testing, vaccination, and most recently oral antiviral treatment, in a community that has experienced major disparities prior to and during the pandemic. Many that come to us are uninsured. Now that the federal government has depleted funding which previously covered vaccinations and treatment, it leaves the uninsured with limited options, as lots of pharmacies have simply stopped offering the services because they cannot legally turn away the uninsured. Despite the challenges, Sozo Wellness Pharmacy has continued hold true to our mission and to serve the community, without reimbursement of vaccines and treatment of the uninsured, for months.
We are launching this campaign as a means of financial support to assist us in continuing to be able to care for our most vulnerable when they come to us for COVID vaccinations, testing and oral antiviral treatment. We also get indigent patients that come to us and cannot afford inexpensive generic medications, so we would like to also use funds to assist when those situations arise. Supporting this campaign will allow us to serve more of the uninsured, as we now have to ration how many we can take care of and still balance our business operations.
Sozo Wellness Pharmacy appreciates your support and partnership as we journey to help our community to “LIVE WELL & BE WHOLE”!
