I am updating this campaign to describe a little more about who I am and why I am asking for donations. My name is Kristen Nese and I am David Lundberg's sister. I live in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and have for fifty years. My brother left for Fiji in 2008 and began experiencing a journey of trials and tribulations. He met Joka Soroivai Lundberg
, a native of Fiji and married her; their beauitful son Yaca was born in 2013. On February 20, 2016, Category 5 Cyclone Winston devastated many villages and towns in Fiji. Among those villages was Soweri Village, which is near the town of Ba on the largest island of Fiji. David and Joka's immediate and extended family was severely affected after the cyclone destroyed their 7 homes. The monies raised with this Gofundme campaign will be divided between the families; helping with building supplies and fixing their homes.
David and Joka successfully send money to their family members using Western Union. Joka's brother is the recipient of the money in Fiji at a Western Union location in Fiji.
Farming is their main source of income and daily food. The farms of these 7 families were also destroyed by the cyclone. Aid (rice, flour, tinned tuna, and water) from the Fijian government and other countries has been found to only addresses their daily food requirements. It does not assist in rebuilding or repairing their homes.
Approximately 50 people are now living in two homes that were spared by the cyclone. There is not enough room for everyone. This has left people sleeping outside in temporary shelters made from roofing tin and other materials gathered from the destroyed homes This attempt at raising funds will assist in repairing or rebuilding the homes of these 7 families. We humbly ask that you consider helping with this effort.
Thank you for your consideration,
Kristen Lundberg Nese
