The Southwest Model Railroad Museum (formerly known as the Southwest Model Railroad Club) is a non-profit organization that has provided the Los Lunas/Belen community with aesthetically pleasing, HO scale train displays free of charge since 1999. The club changed their name to a museum this year in line with an increased focus on community outreach that provides education on railroad history, model layout construction, and youth programs.
The SWMRM was located in the Harvey House in Belen from 1999 to 2014. In 2015, the display moved to the Mid Valley Air Park in Los Lunas. Due to a recent sale of the building, SWMRM had to vacate the premises immediately. The layout was disassembled and will be stored until a new home can be found.
The current COVID pandemic has made finding a new location in the area extremely difficult. It is also nearly impossible to rent or purchase a location without upfront funds. Ideally, the SWMRM would like to purchase a property outright in order to focus on growing and outreach activities. At the very least, SWMRM would like to raise enough funds to lease a new location and return to providing much needed artistic and educational recreation for the community.
Any amount helps and SWMRM thanks you for your support!
