Southend Pier Walk in Memory of Leon Thorn

‍Southend Pier Walk in Memory of Leon Thorn
Date: Sunday 17th August 2025
Time: 11:00 AM Start
Location: Southend Pier – the world’s longest pleasure pier, stretching 1.33 miles (2.14 km) into the Thames Estuary
️Ribbon Cut by: Leon’s parents, Martin and Mandy Thorn

This August, Leon’s family and friends will walk together along Southend Pier in loving memory of Leon Thorn, and in support of Muscular Dystrophy UK, a charity dedicated to funding research and improving the lives of people affected by muscle-wasting conditions.

We said goodbye to Leon on 16th May after he faced complications during surgery. He lived with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, but it never defined him. Leon was brave, hilarious, kind, and endlessly determined. A gamer, a thinker, and a quiet fighter — he inspired everyone who knew him.

Leon’s spirit is what brings us together now. We’re lacing up our walking shoes to honour his life and raise money for a cause that meant so much to him — a cause fighting for better treatments, greater awareness, and a future of hope.

Please consider donating, sharing, or even joining us on the walk. Every pound raised goes to Muscular Dystrophy UK and brings us one step closer to a future free of Duchenne.

Thank you — your support means more than you know.
