On September 28, 1895 the Shirley Academy, at 157 Shirley Road, Southampton was purchased and turned into the Seventh-Day Adventist Church; we are still worshipping there today. However, there is not enough room for everyone and we lack additional rooms for Sabbath school for different age groups and for other activities.
On September 17th 2024, we learned that the disused United Reformed Church building on Shirley Road was for sale. This building Is located across the street from the historic site where the Adventist faith In the UK began, In 1878, at "Ravenswood" cottage. In an attempt to bring our history back to life, we made an offer for the building. On December 4th 2024 we were Informed that our offer had been accepted.
While unoccupied, squatters had gained entry, so a complete interior renovation is needed, including the electrical installations, the heating system, and the repair of the leaking part of the roof.
In addition to the place of worship, our plan is to make it the first Adventist heritage centre in the British Isles and a centre for community support and outreach.
We solicit your help, through your donations (however small or large), to fund the refurbishment and renovations necessary to bring this landmark building back to life and ready for worshipping in.
All donations will be spent entirely on this renovation work.
We thank you in advance for any contribution you can make, and we look forward to updating you on the progress of this project.
God bless.
