Hi, I’m Emily and I am attempting to run the Southampton half marathon on the 3rd of may, raising money to benefit Southampton General Hospital, specifically the ICU Cardiac Dept.

SGH have some of the most talented and dedicated surgeons in the country and the ICU cardiac department is one of the best in the top hospitals to receive treatment from, which is something we should be extremely proud of in our city.

A few years ago, my brother Ethan, a fit and healthy lad in his 20s had to undergo open heart surgery due to after lots of tests, an aneurysm being found in his heart. As you can imagine, for Ethan and our family that was a really worrying and serious time, one to which we will always be so grateful to the ICU Cardiac Dept at SGH. The extensive testing and not giving up, to the surgery itself, the care they showed Ethan and the reassuring after care.

Ethan made a full recovery and is now has his full life back which we can’t thank the hospital enough for, so for that I would like to raise money for them as a way of us saying thank you.

Now, if you know me you will know running is not my strong point and I would go as far to say I often think I’d rather be hit by a bus than run, but here we are kids. You’ll also know I like to make things difficult for myself!

I want to do something that challenges my body, something I have to work really hard for not only in my body but mind also.

In December just gone I couldn’t run 3k without stopping for a walk and I’m now at 11k with consistent running - however a walk is ok! I just mean I’m training and working towards this goal and the plan is paying off (slowly but surely, however much I moan about it) ;)

Anyway, if you have even £1 it will go

towards our amazing cardiac hospital that we are so so lucky and fortunate to have on our doorsteps and I will try my best to complete that half marathon as a thank you.
