The South African Classical Singer community has suffered incredible financial hardships due to the COVID-19 economic impact. Many of our singers are struggling to buy food and clothing, and they cannot afford to celebrate Christmas this year. Non-profit organizations are flooded with artists in need but have run out of funding to provide relief.
This December the African Christmas Fundraising Concert will collect donations to create a Christmas relief fund for which South African Classical Singers can apply to assist families.
South Africa continues to produce world class opera singers year after year, along with groundbreaking original African operas and African opera adaptations. Our artists are leaving an irreplaceable mark on the global operatic and artistic community, and they deserve at the very least the support they need to afford basic living costs.
This December 23rd at 12PM and 7PM CST via YouTube Live our African Christmas Concert will feature interview clips with singers, classic African Christmas songs, African arrangements and even world premieres of brand new pieces and arrangements.
All performers will receive a small stipend. Funding applications will be open for other singers before the concert, and funds will be distributed on an as-received basis with the aim of distributing funds to families on December 24th at the latest, before Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
