Help Us Build Hope Through Lacrosse in Muizenberg, South Africa
In the heart of Muizenberg, Cape Town, a powerful story is unfolding — one where sport becomes a lifeline for children growing up in one of South Africa’s most underserved communities. We are raising £3,500 to launch a sustainable, community-driven lacrosse initiative that offers joy, mentorship, and opportunity to township youth — and we need your help.
In the surrounding townships of Muizenberg, daily life for many children is shaped by poverty, overcrowding, and lack of access to safe public spaces. Many families live in informal housing with limited access to clean water, electricity, and reliable transport. Youth unemployment is staggeringly high. For too many children, especially in areas like Vrygrond and Capricorn, childhood is overshadowed by violence, hunger, and a lack of constructive outlets.
Despite these challenges, the children of Muizenberg are resilient, curious, and full of untapped potential. They deserve spaces to play, grow, and dream beyond the limitations of their environment. That’s where our lacrosse project comes in.
We are a small team of local and international volunteers, partnering with Ywam Muizenberg and Future Stars Sports Ministry, who are committed to introducing lacrosse in a way that is equitable, sustainable, and rooted in community leadership. Our goal is not just to teach a sport — but to build a lasting program that empowers young people with skills, structure, and a sense of belonging.
Lacrosse, with its fast pace, teamwork, and discipline, offers something new and exciting. But more than that, it offers a platform: a reason for children to come together safely, to form positive peer relationships, and to connect with mentors. It also introduces a sport with little economic barrier to entry — once a child has a stick and a pair of shoes, they can participate fully.
To do this, we need to raise £3,500 to cover the essential startup costs of launching our program this year. Here’s how your donation can make a direct impact:
£5 provides lunch for a child during a weekend lacrosse camp — fuel for learning, playing, and staying safe.
£10 helps to fund transport for one child to and from weekend sessions — removing one of the biggest barriers to participation.
£30 buys a lacrosse stick — a permanent, personal invitation into the game for a child who might never otherwise have access to one.
Our camps and weekly training sessions are run at local fields in partnership with existing youth organizations. We are committed to training community coaches, sourcing second-hand gear when possible, and building local leadership into every part of the program. This is not a one-off project — it's a growing movement.
Every pound you give goes directly into the hands and hearts of these kids — not into admin fees or bloated overheads. We’re keeping this project grassroots, and that’s how we’ll keep it real.
We’ve already seen the impact: the excitement on a child’s face when they score their first goal, the confidence sparked in a young girl who discovers her athletic ability, and the bonds forming across cultures and communities through play.
By supporting us, you’re not just giving to a sport. You’re giving a child a reason to wake up on a Saturday morning with purpose. You’re giving them a team to belong to. You’re helping a whole community to believe in what’s possible.
Please consider making a donation today. Share this with friends. Sponsor a stick. Feed a child. Fuel a dream.
Together, we can create something extraordinary — one pass, one goal, one child at a time.
Thank you!
