Si is an astounding husband, father, brother, friend, colleague, guitarist, and the most amazing grandfather to those that are lucky to call him “papa.” These are only a fraction of the impact that he has made on our lives. Whether he was at work or at home with family, his real super power was spreading happiness through laughter and his positive energy.
Over the years, he has been powering through life with Type 2 Diabetes, high blood pressure, and enduring multiple strokes - which resulted in Bell’s Palsy. To say Si is a fighter and all around rockstar is an understatement. We are hopeful that this is another obstacle he can overcome.
In early 2022, while on long term disability, Si suffered some health issues to his back which resulted in limiting his ability to walk. Figuring it may have been from a fall down the stairs the previous year, we suspected it was just a back injury. While mustering through days of PT in hopes to regain his mobility, he unfortunately was sent to the ICU after receiving shocking news of significant decrease in his blood count. After a few days and nights in the ER, the diagnosis came back: Multiple Myeloma. A cancer of plasma cells. This weakens and damages the bones, immune system, kidneys, and red blood cell count.
Never did we suspect cancer….With several rounds of chemotherapy underway and possible back surgery, the expected physical and emotional stress will eventually take its toll. While being out of work and his wife Toom being their sole provider, the financial stress is just as debilitating. He has undergone several tests and procedures to help understand the state of his current condition. We are also currently waiting for bone marrow biopsy results. With what we have gathered so far, the prognosis is expected to have in-home physical therapy following his release.
We are kindly hoping that those whose lives have been touched by Si, will donate and/or share this link to support him and his family during this time. We are grateful for any amount of support or even sharing the link is immensely appreciated. Please keep our family in your thoughts and prayers at this time as we continue to push through. Thank you!
