Last week, due to a PayPal glitch, I lost our website domain, soundslikeamovement.com. Someone else snatched it up and turned it into a porn site. This person seems to do this for a living: taking other people's websites and holding them for ransom by converting them into porn sites until the original owner pays them a fee to release the domain back. He also seems to target faith-based sites.
I could live with the fact that soundslikeamovement.com was no longer ours, but I could not live with it being converted into a platform where women are objectified and sold. That stands directly against everything our content champions. As a result, I swallowed my pride, negotiated a deal with this guy, and bought our domain back. We agreed on $1500.
How You Can Help:
Two things:
1. I hate asking for money for a multitude of reasons. I never want to manipulate anyone or appear like I don't have my act together, but the truth is this was a completely unforeseen expense that puts a dent in our budget. Sounds Like A Movement isn't mine. It's yours. It was created to inspire you to move beyond fear and doubt and into the movement your life was created to be. If Sounds Like A Movement has meant anything to you during the last 7 years I've had this domain name, I'm boldly asking that you would consider contributing to cover these costs.
2. Al Perkins is the name of the guy who took our domain. He's a human being like us who needs A LOT of love. I don't know who first hurt him or inspired him to make money in this strange way, but what if we used this moment as an opportunity to love those who make us angry? What if we FLOODED Al's inbox with POSTIVE notes of encouragement? Please don't be rude or upset. Consider writing Al a short note. It could be as simple as saying "Hey Al, you are loved. You are worthy of grace. Go in peace." What if everyone who saw this took 3 minutes to do just that? THAT would be a movement of love! He's made his email public on the internet and is very easy to find by googling.
Thank you for supporting the things I make and for being people who show me what real love is online and off.

CJ
