Sound Tean Chan

Hello family and friends, our parents are Ham and Sound Chan. We have the blessing of being their children. We are honored to be part of her legacy. As we have experienced Mom's earthly departure; her death leaves us with such an ache and remembrance of the life of joy she lived in this life.
In these last few months, Mom had been living with extreme pain. She handled pain very well. However, then her appetite was fading, rapid weight loss came on, and some 3 hospital visits later, the doctors found lumps and nodules throughout the body.

It was at the third visit, the medical staff heard her breathing--something wasn't right. Upon evaluation, they saw a lump on her neck and proceeded with a CT scan. The results were presence of a mass in neck, along with lumps and nodules from the neck down. The mass encroached on her airway, covering about half her neck. The best choice was biopsy and tracheostomy. She went on a humidifier and oxygen. No longer able to vocalize. She learned to mouth her words and weakly tried to write notes. A week later the results came, it was determined to be an aggressive thyroid cancer (stage 4, terminal) that spread to the lungs, liver, stomach and along her back. A nightmare indeed. After 15 days in the hospital, she was discharged on hospice-care, and palliative care. Transported home on April 4th, comfortably with skilled nurses (daughter, Rose, daughter-in-law, Jovie, and CNA grandson, Tyler), she had six comfortable nights with loved ones who visited and cared for her.
Finally, Sunday, April 9th she was restless. She had pain meds and delicious Khmer sour soup with kroeung, and she went to bed. April 10th at 1:30A.M., she took her last breath in a peaceful sleep. She was beautiful even as she lay in death. No longer in pain and without earthly sorrows, we know she is at home with the Lord.

As she has passed away, we face the tasks of preparing for the funeral arrangements and gathering to celebrate her life. We'd love to ask you to consider giving a gift to help cover costs for the coffin, services, and burial.

Mom's life was full of joy and beauty.

We look forward to celebrating Sound T. Chan.
