Help Our Youth Study Abroad N Egypt

Donation protected
Eric Williams and Kim-Renee Gregory NEED YOUR SUPPORT. Visit www.SoulsOfEgypt.com to learn more. They are independently - without the direction of the below organizations, trying to raise $48,607.00 to take 10 students and 3 chaperones to a Study Abroad Trip to Cairo, Egypt in Africa on August 1 - 15, 2018. These 13 people consist of:  2 students from Eagle Academy of Newark (all boys school) --  Newark, NJ, 2 youth from Covenant House (shelter for homeless and runaway youth) -- Newark, NJ, 2 current students from Eagle Flight Squadron (aviation/flight school for youth) -- E. Orange, NJ, 2 alumni from Eagle Flight Squadron (who are currently college students), 2 students from Essex County College -- Newark, NJ, and 3 chaperones - (various cities). With the exception of the alumni students, all youth are picked by their respective schools or organizations.

Each person is being asked to invest in their own trip by raising/paying a minimum of $500.00. Each person needs to have a valid passport. There are no shots required and the trip amount covers everything: registration, lectures, flights, hotels, taxes, tips, insurance, visa, tours, breakfast & dinner.  Lunch is the only thing not covered, along with any souvenirs of interest.

This trip is being hosted by the Association for the Study of Classical African Civilizations (ASCAC) and Howard University. Any community member (student/non-student) may attend, but the money raised here will be for the youth and chaperones from the above mentioned schools/organizations. These groups will be guided by community mentors and scholars, a few of whom have already lived and/or traveled to Africa on several occasions.

If funded, these students will embark on (what may be) their only opportunity to travel to another continent. They are traveling to Egypt (Kemet) on an educational and cultural journey to explore the connections between Africa and African descendants throughout the world. While there they will engage in a two-day symposium with members of ASCAC. Participants in the tour will study Egypt’s rich history, heritage, culture, museums, schools, and national monuments.

This trip to Africa will give participants an educational experience that will last for a lifetime. All fundraising recipients traveling to Africa are required to maintain a video/paper journal and complete a brief write-up about their experience. We want to understand each person's educational experience and how such an experience can best be utilized by the community, for better understanding of African history and culture. This is a human relations and cultural exchange opportunity for these young people, as well as their chaperones.

Eric and Kim-Renee are two community supporters, from different backgrounds, who have been volunteering for their communities for many years. They are too proud to ask for help, but desperately need it to show these young people that there is more to this world than their immediate surroundigs. These youth are growing up in areas that are shouting, "You will never get farther than the block in front of you. Don't dream of being President one day, when you are guaranteed to preside over the lunch crowd at your local fast-food restaurant." We all know what it means to have that one thing happen that seems to have changed your path in life (whether for the good or the bad). Eric and Kim-Renee wants this trip to be that game changer for these young people - for the great.

They would greatly appreciate any and all help. Eric, Kim-Renee, the youth, and community members (like myself) are conducting fundraisers along the way. The deadline to have all the payments in to the travel agency - Consolidated Tours Org., Inc, is May 1, 2018. Their personal deadline is April 1, 2018, so that they can best determine who still needs help purchasing, suitcases, toiletries, passports, etc.

Once media waivers have been signed by all the parents, chaperones and organizations, names of the participants, along with pictures and videos will be updated as time goes on. Eric and Kim-Renee wish to take you on this journey as well, by keeping you up-to-date with meetings and outings they conduct with the youth, in preparation of their long awaited trip to Africa. The goal is to create a bond that will encourage these young people to work together upon their return to the states and pay-it-forward to their peers.

Why $48,607.00?
If you are wondering how they came up with the fundraising amount of $48,607.00: the trip is $4,200.00 each, plus $39.00 of minimum required insurance, minus the $500.00 each person is being asked to contribute towards their own trip.
