Hello, my name is Matty Killen, and I’m raising funds to produce Soul Music, a powerful short film co-written with award-winning actor and writer Kelsea Knox. The story began life as Kelsea’s acclaimed monologue and has since grown into a screenplay exploring grief, healing, and the journey of finding peace after loss.

The short film follows Saoirse, a young woman who sets out to scatter her father’s ashes in the mountains he once dreamed of sharing with her. Along the way, she confronts the weight of grief, fractured family ties, and her own struggle to rediscover love for life.

Why This Story Matters

Soul Music is more than just a short film — it’s a deeply human story about what it means to lose, to hold on, and eventually, to let go. The themes are personal to both of us as filmmakers, and we believe audiences will resonate with its honesty and emotional depth.

This short will also act as a proof of concept for the feature-length version of Soul Music, which is nearly complete. By bringing this story to life on a smaller scale first, we aim to showcase the vision, tone, and emotional power of the feature to future partners and festivals.
