S.O.S. - Save Our Society!
Kamloops Players Society is asking for your support. As the oldest theatre group in Kamloops, we’ve been entertaining and engaging with the community since 1967. For over a decade, we were fortunate to have our home base at the Stagehouse Theatre on the North Shore, which we leased. Like many community theatre groups, we were financially impacted by the COVID pandemic and the associated Public Health restrictions starting in 2020.
In addition, the building sustained major flood damage as a result of broken water pipes frozen when transients turned off our gas line. We sadly had to give up our theatre in February of 2021.
Fast forward to February 2023 and we’ve discovered a large unknown debt. None of the Society was aware that due to a gas furnace installation error, the tenant on the other side of the Stagehouse building was charged for our gas usage from Sept 2018 to Feb 2021. We were only being billed for meter use for that period, and now owe $8,713.
Our Society was able to pay $3,500 of this amount, leaving us a balance owing of $5,213. We are asking for your help to ease the impact of this unforeseen debt. As a non-profit society run completely by volunteers, we would love to keep local community theatre alive and well in Kamloops! Thank you in advance for your time and support of our organization. We hope to see you at a future production!
