To my friends, friends, and each one of you reading this— I never thought I’d find myself in a position to create this, you always read posts like these and hope it never happens to you or someone you love. I come to you today with the heaviest heart and a plea for help.

My aunt Odalys, who has been like a second mother to me, has been diagnosed with an advanced malignant tumor in her bladder. Doctors have warned us that without immediate surgery, the cancer risks spreading to her lungs, something that could change everything. She has less than two weeks to get this life saving operation.

But this isn’t just any surgery. My aunt has been battling systemic lupus erythematosus since the age of 19. Her condition complicates the procedure and requires intensive care post-operation, which makes the cost skyrocket. Without having the money in hand, the hospital won’t move forward. Something that has been hard to face.

The total cost of the surgery and post-operative care is $40,000 — a sum that feels impossible, and insurance won’t cover any of it because of her pre existing condition, but it’s the only chance she has.

Odalys is the heart of our family. She’s my mom’s only sibling, my grandmother’s firstborn, and a mother herself. Despite a lifetime of health battles, she’s always been strong, loving, selfless, and hopeful. The doctors once told her she wouldn’t live past her youth, but here she is, still fighting. And now, she needs us to fight with her.

A mis amistades, familia y a cada uno de ustedes leyendo esto, nunca pensé que me encontraría en condiciones de crear esto, siempre leen publicaciones como estas y esperan que nunca les pase a ustedes ni a alguien que aman. Hoy vengo con el corazón más pesado y una súplica de ayuda.

A mi tía Odalys, que ha sido como una segunda madre para mí, le han diagnosticado un tumor maligno avanzado en la vejiga. Los médicos nos han advertido que sin una cirugía inmediata, el cáncer corre el riesgo de extenderse a sus pulmones, algo que podría cambiarlo todo. Tiene menos de dos semanas para recibir esta operación que salva vidas.

Pero esto no es una cirugía cualquiera. Mi tía ha estado luchando contra el lupus eritematoso sistémico desde los 19 años. Su condición complica el procedimiento y requiere cuidados intensivos después de la operación, lo que hace que el costo se dispare. Sin tener el dinero en la mano, el hospital no avanzará. Algo que ha sido difícil de enfrentar.

El costo total de la cirugía y la atención postoperatoria es de $40.000 dólares, una suma que parece imposible, y el seguro no cubrirá nada de eso debido a su condición preexistente, pero es la única oportunidad que tiene.

Odalys es el corazón de nuestra familia. Ella es la única hermana de mi madre, la primogénita de mi abuela y una madre.
