SOS: help my friend to save his family from war!

I am writing on behalf of my friend Azzam, with whom I spent 5 years in a university student dorm.

Here's the last message from him:

"It has been long suffering for the last 7 months, and the hope is fading daily for me and my family. There is no home, no school, no job, no hospital, and barely any food or water. Now I am desperately seeking a path to get away from here, but I need your help in this. Crossing the borders is very expensive, around 5000 USD per person. My small family has 5 members and this will cost at least 25000 USD in our case just for crossing the borders. If we manage to accomplish this mammoth challenge, there will be a long and expensive journey (costing another ~10000 USD) to the next place where we can seek refuge, perhaps in Jordan."

If you are reading this and pondering upon what to do:

You and I, we cannot solve this crisis in the middle-east. But, we can at least try to save a family with 3 children. I know we have the hearts and guts to do this together. I just hope that we can act before it's too late; before these children become statistics of another war.

Azzam is on the way to the border to apply for a visa that will cost him $5000. He is going to pay for it from his own pocket, which is basically all that he has at the moment. This amount is probably the lifeline for the entire family to survive with basic needs. He is also leaving behind his family with three small children.

Once in Egypt, he'll have several options to receive the money, e.g., westernUnion, Ria, and bank transfer. Azzam has already sent the details for his own bank account.

Now, we better make sure that we have that amount READY to transfer. This amount is ESSENTIAL to submit visa applications for the rest of the family. If we fail to do so, Azzam will go back empty handed to his family while losing all of his lifetime savings and the last chance of survival!

We are hoping to raise half of the sum by this week. Hence, our cumulative effort is the last resort for the reminder of this mammoth total, which can be proven to be puny should we all step up together.
