A little update to this fundraiser:

Many people have been so generous in donating to this very worthy cause. This has enabled more sick, injured and abandoned dogs and cats to be taken off the harsh streets of Doha. They are given food, shelter, medical treatment, and much needed LOVE.

This is ongoing, and Sora has virtually no sponsors, or financial support, other than this GoFundMe. This is an especially difficult time of the year, as many people are leaving Qatar and, horrifically, often just leave their pets behind!!! There are more dogs now in her care, and the number of cats is also increasing. On top of this, there have been several cases of FIP. This is a particularly nasty virus, which without expensive treatment, is always fatal.

We have increased the goal/target to reflect this ongoing need for funds.

Where to start!

Four years ago I returned to the UK after living for ten years in Qatar. When I first went out there, I thought that I would return fit, bronzed and financially well off. The reality was that I returned depressed, broke and with 36 rescue cats.

In Qatar, although it is a rich country, the demise of dogs and cats is horrendous. They are dumped, abused, sick, injured and abandoned. It is relentless!

There are no charities over there to help, just a handful of places run by ordinary people...no government funding or charity status.

One of these people is my good friend Yusra Diab, who started up Sora's Rescue Treasury.

She has helped thousands of dogs and cats!

She answers calls for help, taking in these animals when otherwise they would suffer and die a painful death. She rents a villa where she keeps these dogs and cats, where they get food, shelter, medical treatment and love. She then goes on to arrange new forever homes for them in Europe and USA. Given the current economic situation, there are virtually no homes in Qatar.

All this is funded from her own pocket, other than kind donations of dog and cat food, and she gets a below average salary.

This fundraiser is to pay towards her vast, outstanding vet bills.

All these rescues need medical treatment, sometimes quite extensive, and often surgery. These bills can be paid monthly, but when they reach a certain amount, the account is put on hold. No more animals will be treated.

On top of this, she pays out for medication, wages for a helper, transport, rent and utilities.

The stage that Sora has reached has become pretty desperate, and she is unable to take in any more needy cases.

She has even put her car up for sale in order to be able to continue her rescuing - goodness knows how she will manage without a vehicle.

SORA HAS ABOUT 200 DOGS AND CATS in her care - I can't even imagine that degree of responsibility.
