This is Robert McClory, former South Orlando Rowing Association president and current adminstrator for the club.
We know central Florida took a beating from hurricane Irma. First and foremost in our thoughts are those who had injury, property damage or worse.
South Orlando Rowing Association (SORA) has been providing a place for ages 12-Adult to learn, train and be part of a growing rowing community for 7 years at Moss Park. We have middle school, high school, masters (adult), veteran and adaptive (disabled) rowers who all call SORA their rowing home.
Irma did significant damage to Moss Park and to our facilities including our boat storage, oar storage and dock which will take weeks to repair. We are asking for any help you can offer so we can rebuild a stronger boatyard and get our boats back on the water again.
Please share this with your friends, family and anyone you know in the rowing community who may want to help. We appreciate any donation of any amount.
UPDATE: We hit our original goal of $5000 on the same day as our board and staff met to discuss specific plans to rebuild our boatyard & dock area. That initial goal was set the day after the storm and was set with the idea that we would be able to just repair and rebuild what we had. It turns out that due to regulations, we will be forced to completely rebuild our dock. We are also trying to make sure whatever boatyard rebuilding we do is improved enough to weather the next storm so we don't go through this again. We apprecaite all who helped us reach our initial goal and those who help us work towards our new one. This money will be used in the permitting process & construction for our dock and to begin construction on a structure better able to protect our boats & equipment.
