Sophie's Tanzania Expedition

Hello everyone! My name is Sophie, and I am reaching out to you today to share an exciting opportunity and ask for your support. I have created this GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for my Tanzania Expedition.

With your generous contributions, we can make a significant impact and bring positive change to improving living standards for communities in an ecologically sensitive and sustainable way. The projects I will be working on will include housing & welfare, food and water security, education & training, and supporting sustainable livelihoods.

Camps International offer ethical journeys with impact. So far they have helped to positively impact the lives of over 120,000 people, provide homes for more than 60 of the poorest families, vaccinate and treat more than 26,000 livestock to improve animal welfare and establish at least 1.1 million extra trees

My expedition will be for 1 month, I will be staying in 4 different camps, ranging from traditional thatched buildings and longhouses to a simple dome tent or even a hammock in the jungle or on the beach.

I will rarely be able to have WiFi or even a charged phone (this is worth a donation alone right??!). I will be provided with 3 meals a day, clean toilets and private washing facilities, however, not all camps have hot water.

With around 51% of the population living in absolute poverty, it is clear that this work in East Africa is absolutely essential to bettering the lives of the communities I will be working in. They have little income other than subsistence farming, with drought, infertile soils and crop sabotage from wildlife rife, it is no wonder there is often not enough food to go around. The average life expectancy in East Africa is 50 years of age, a frighteningly low number.

It's not all work and no play, I get to learn Swahili, hang out with the locals, try traditional food, hopefully - get to see lions, tigers, elephants, giraffes, rhinos, and zebras, scuba dive, and last but not least appreciate what we have, make new friends and experience something I'll probably never get to do again and certainly something my parents have never done before.
