Sophie needs a new computer-tablet
Hello! I am Sophie Labelle, the author of Assigned Male Comics, Candycore comics and a bunch of trans-positive novels and children's books. I've been creating empowering work for the trans and queer communities since 2012, including at least a thousand comic strips and posters that are available for anyone on the internet. I make this possible by doing talks, lectures and book signing events here and there, which hasn't been possible lately due to the pandemic.
A few months ago, my trusty 2017 pen-computer tablet died, after four years of intense use and travels. I've been trying to save some money to buy another one, but with my workload being reduced, it might be another year until I can afford it. In the meantime, without a computer or a tablet, I've been using my husband's equipment to create my work, but this temporary solution isn't ideal for anyone and makes creating new work more challenging.
This is why I've decided, with a heavy heart, to start this campaign. I was asked several times to start it by readers since my computer first died, but I've been putting that idea aside for some time, because when I crowdfunded my previous tablet, in 2017, it started a huge wave of death threats and harassment from neo-nazi websites and alt-right forums, who are against the idea of trans artists having means to create, and I'm bracing for it to happen again. However, it has become increasingly clear to me that I won't be able to create effectively until I get new equipment.

I am eternally grateful for everyone who make this possible. The supporters, yes, but also everybody who reads and share my work. There are many times that I've thought about quitting independent work, especially work that exposes me to the ugliest sides of the internet, work that offers me no insurance or retirement plan, but you make this all worth it.
