Sophie, Michaela and Kirsty’s Charity Special Rod Race

Hi, we are Sophie, Michaela and Kirsty- a group of 3 sisters all deciding to take on the challenge of competing in a series of Special Rods races on the 4th of August in order to raise money for Cancer Research. This is a charity event hosted at Mendips Raceway, which is held to encourage women with no previous racing experience to push themselves out of their comfort zones to raise money for an important cause.

Despite cancer survival rates doubling over the last 40 years, there is still progress to be made. Every penny raised will be used to continue the progress in technology and work which offers new opportunities to find different ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer in order to improve the survival rates even further. This is a charity that we, as a family, hold close to our hearts as it has impacted many of our loved ones, and we are so pleased to be helping out such an important cause.

The category of race which we are partaking in is Special Rods. This is a non-contact race that provides bumper-to-bumper racing, where success being reliant on the perfect blend of both speed and precision. We are excited to put ourselves in our fathers shoes (or more-so his overalls on this occasion) and experience the adrenaline he thrives from through his hobby which he has loved for decades. We are also following in the footsteps of our beloved late Grandad, Ted Simpson, who was a keen racer throughout his life and shared his passion for everything motorsports- but mostly through his many years of experience with banger racing and hot rod racing. After watching him lose his battle with cancer, we are driven to do him proud in his memory and raise money towards helping Cancer Research.

Not only we, but all of the other friends and families which have been severely impacted by the harms of cancer, really appreciate any donations that are made- whether big or small.
