Sophia's Surgical Expenses

Hi,

My name is Kim Beauchamp, and I've started this fundraiser to help my cousin, Sophia, with expenses related to her upcoming surgery. Many of you will remember that Sophia and her family were in a horrific car accident on August 3rd of 2021. Sophia had gotten out of their vehicle to switch drivers and was hit by a speeding car. She sustained life-threatening injuries and underwent multiple surgeries to repair her wrist and several ribs, which were shattered.

During all of this, Sophia and Michael's son, EJ, was diagnosed with MISC--a group of symptoms that result from Covid and can lead to death. EJ made what can only be called a miraculous recovery and we are grateful beyond measure that he's here and thriving today.

However, Sophia has lasting effects from the accident. She's currently in emergent need of a 2nd operation to repair the original surgery done on her ribs. Five of the screws the surgeons used are too long, and every time she takes a deep breath, sneezes, or coughs, she's in excruciating pain. Because of the location of the too-long screws, her liver could be lacerated at any moment with the slighest wrong movement. Though this surgery won't immediately relieve her pain, she'll be able to finally receive nerve blocks once her liver is out of danger. She desperately needs this surgery.

Here's the catch: Sophia's insurance won't cover the entire cost of the operation, and the hospital requires payment before the surgery on April 14th, which is due by March 30th (FIVE DAYS FROM THE START OF THIS FUNDRAISER).

In addition, when her lawyers settled her case in 2021, they only secured enough to pay for the medical bills at that time; they neglected to mention or account for the fact that any of the providers who cared for Sophia could file claims for an additional 3 years. As it happens, one of those providers has submitted an additional claim against her, which they don't have the money to cover. This is not the news this family needs.

Sophia is a wonderwoman, but right now, she needs our help. She's the primary caregiver to her 3 young children. EJ and Josie have doctors' appointments 2-3 times each week, not to mention the other million day-to-day responsibilities of caring for littles. This surgery is very painful and has a long recovery time where Sophia will have to restore the muscles that've taken so long to heal from having them dissected in 2021. She'll be leaning heavily on her husband, Michael, as well as family and friends in the area. It would be wonderful if she could lean on us all, too. Any amount you can give to help ease their financial burden and give Sophia a chance for living with less pain is deeply appreciated.
