Sophia’s Olympic Taekwondo Journey

Hello everyone!

My name is Sophia Fokas, and I am a passionate Taekwondo athlete from Ontario on a quest to reach the highest levels of competition and representing Canada on the world stage.

I have been practicing Taekwondo since I was 4 years old and have always been in love with the sport. I have dedicated countless hours perfecting my technique and preparing for competitions. Training and conditioning both my body and mind to compete at the highest level has been integrated in my everyday way of life for as long as I can remember.

Over the years competing at different levels, I’ve had many successes to celebrate and failures to learn from. Some of my most memorable achievements include winning Pan American Championships as a cadet and then coming back after the covid shutdown where I missed the opportunity to compete as a Junior, to win Canadian Nationals in my first year competing as a senior athlete. This also earned me a spot on the Canadian National team where I had the opportunity to represent Canada at the 2022 Pan American Senior Championships and 2022 World Senior Championships. Although I didn’t medal at either of these great events, I walked away with invaluable experience and a boost of determination. I recently competed In, and won first place at both the AAU US National Championships and Presidents Cup hosted in Brazil, securing my spot on next years Pan Am Championships as well as the upcoming 2024 Olympic Qualification tournament.

As a new senior athlete, I am ready to take my skills to the next level to pursue my dream of winning at the world stage and competing in the Olympics. However, as you may know, competing at the world stage requires significant resources and financial support, especially as a full-time student. That's why I am reaching out for your assistance.

With your generous donation, I will be able to cover the costs of training, equipment, dietary needs, travel, and other expenses associated with competing at this level.
