SOPHIA X SHANELL

Sophia X Shanell is an editorial-style photographic collection devoted to shedding light upon the culture deeply rooted within the Hispanic and Latinx community through fashion. With second-hand and personally crafted pieces, we strive to pay homage to the vital threads of our family fibers.

With the completion of the collection, we intend to sell the featured designs to raise money for Kids In Need of Defense (KIND), a non-profit organization devoted to ensuring children’s protection and fundamental rights by providing each child with appropriate legal services in immigration court. We understand the reality that only a few achieve the “American Dream”, one currently tangled in unfavorable conditions, but we still choose to fight for the lives of those who need it most.

We create for the families fleeing war derived from greed only to be embraced by cement borders. We design for the children playing with empty stomachs and speaking with hungry mouths. We exist boldly for the generations of people endlessly seeking a new life in this nation, carrying nothing but vague memories of home on their backs and prayers in their pocket, hoping both will remain.
