A Last Plea for Help: Please Help My Niece, Sophia

I never imagined I would have to write something like this, but today I am asking from the bottom of my heart for your help.

My beautiful niece, Sophia, is a devoted mother of three wonderful children. Four and a half years ago, what should have been one of the happiest days of her life—the birth of her youngest child—turned into the beginning of an unimaginable nightmare.

Following complications from a spinal procedure during childbirth in February 2022, Sophia has been left living with a spinal CSF leak and adhesive arachnoiditis, two devastating neurological conditions that have robbed her of almost everything.

Every single day she endures relentless burning, crushing, electric-shock pain throughout her spine, legs, head, face, and nervous system. The pain never stops. She spends most of her life confined to bed and is unable to sit upright for more than a few minutes without her symptoms becoming even worse.

Watching someone you love suffer like this is heartbreaking.

Over the past 4½ years, Sophia has missed birthdays, school events, family outings, and countless precious moments with her children. Instead of making memories with them, she has been fighting simply to survive each day.

The hardest part isn’t just seeing the physical pain she lives with—it’s seeing the emotional pain of a loving mother being unable to be there for the children she adores.

She has done everything asked of her. She has attended countless hospital appointments, undergone procedures, and tried every treatment available through the NHS, yet her condition continues to deteriorate. The options here have been exhausted, and her only remaining hope now lies with specialist treatment abroad at a dedicated CSF leak centre where experts may still be able to help.

This fundraiser isn’t about comfort or convenience.

It’s about giving Sophia a chance to live again.

After 4½ years of unimaginable suffering, she has reached a point where she feels she simply cannot continue living like this indefinitely if treatment remains beyond reach. No mother should ever have to face such despair, and no child should have to watch their mum suffer in this way.

As her family, we are doing everything we can to help her reach the specialists who may be able to give her hope.
