SOPHIA HURTEAU to represent TEAM CANADA DANCE

Hello everyone,

Thank you for visiting our GoFund me page for Sophia. We are doing this fundraising campaign to help get our talented ten year old daughter to the IDO World Acrobatic Dance Championship in Monterrey, Mexico to represent TEAM CANADA. Dates are July 22-23, 2023.

Here is a letter from Sophia herself:

“Hi everyone. My name is Sophia Hurteau. I am 10 years old and a proud member of Team Canada Acro Dance.

I began dancing at TK Danceworx when I was 2 years old and joined the competitive team at age 4. As far back as I can remember, dance has been a primary focus in my life. Having ADHD, things don’t come as easy for me as it does for others. I have to work extra hard for simple things, and school has never been something that I’ve been successful at. Dance is where I excel. It’s where I can be myself, with no regrets. I’m proud of my successes and accomplishments thus far and am extremely excited to take things to the next level.

I live in Kingston Ontario with my parents (Shawn and Brianna) and younger sister (Briella). We are about three hours east of Toronto (where all of my practices are). It can be a real challenge to try to train at an international level while living in a small town. It has been hard to schedule hotels, living expenses and transportation so often during these difficult times.

I am very fortunate to have the support of my family, who have made significant sacrifices toward my success in dance. I have also contributed by making and selling handmade scrunchies and bows.

Any donations are gratefully accepted and will go towards the flights, accommodation, living expenses, choreography, costumes, team uniforms and more, while preparing for the World Championships and while in Mexico.
