“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others?” - Martin Luther King Jr.
For three decades, Sophia Glover has lived the answer to that question. As a mother, grandmother, and dedicated community organizer, Sophia has spent her life showing up for all of us—advocating for justice, supporting neighbors in need, and shaping the next generation of changemakers.
She’s the kind of person who always shows up for others. Now, it’s our turn to show up for her.
Sophia needs to undergo a long overdue hip replacement surgery after finally convincing doctors to take the source of her pain seriously. Her right to thrive is limited as she uses a walking cane, struggles to sleep, and omits nonessential movement to minimize her pain and discomfort.
Unfortunately, for many Black women navigating our current healthcare system, this story is all too familiar. But we can help write the next chapter together.
“I just want my life back. I don’t have one anymore.” -Sophia
This surgery is critical not just for Sophia’s health, but for her ability to continue doing the work she loves at Florida Rising. While insurance will cover most of the costs, her out of pocket portion is still significant. We’re raising $3,700 to cover these costs and give her peace of mind during recovery.
Any amount helps us get closer to ensuring Sophia will receive the care she deserves. Together, we can show up and give back to someone who gives their life everyday to improve ours.
Whether you donate or simply share, we thank you for being part of this community. Let’s help Sophia walk again—with dignity, without pain, and surrounded by the same care she’s shown to so many others.
