Update - October 12, 2023
Friends, we are ready to update you, our extended family, with the details we have received following Sophia’s recent PET scan. 3 new areas were detected on her hip & spine. Within 3 weeks of that scan, Fia noticed a bump on her forehead and began experiencing sinus problems. This was treated as a sinus infection for 7 days. Last Sunday her forehead became swollen and increasingly painful, and she was instructed to go to the ER, where extensive tests were performed. The outcome was devastating, the bump is a new Ewings tumor that is pressing on the edge of the brain. We are being flooded with opinions, options and a heavy prognosis. As usual, Fia is in fight mode, but also somber and scared. We are grateful for the amazing team at CHOC who are caring for Sophia and fighting for her each step of the way. We are saddened to share this burden with you, but each of you make a difference in our days/ lives/ well-being. We thank you for standing beside us. We may start sharing updates on caring bridge at some point, but for now, we are all focusing on helping Sophia fight this fight again.
Let's go Fia, you can do hard things !
Let's help the De La Parra family raise money for medical and care expenses not covered under insurance as Sophia undergoes chemotherapy to treat Ewing's Sarcoma. Our goal is to ease any financial burden during this already difficult time. Any expenses not used for Sophia's care will be donated directly to Children’s Health of Orange County (CHOC).
