Sophia Cummins Heart Transplant Journey
My brother and sister-in law, Andrew and Heather Cummins, were blessed with their first child, Sophia Mady Cummins in 2021. Being first time parents comes with its challenges; however, being a first-time parent has not been their only challenge. Sophia was born with a congenital heart disease which has resulted in her having to have 2 open heart surgeries, a constant feeding tube, a pacemaker, daily IV medications and much more. Unfortunately, her heart is not fixable via surgery or medication which has landed her on a heart transplant waiting list.
Over the past months she has been able to wait for her new heart at home with Andrew and Heather. Recently she came down with a stomach bug, which most bounce back from; however, it put her back in the hospital. Her stay at the hospital will likely be longer and most likely will be until she receives a new heart.
With Sophia in the hospital for the unforeseen future, Andrew and Heather will again face the emotional, physical, and financial challenges of Sophia’s treatment. To help ease some of their burdens and the loss of income over the coming months I am asking for your support to help them through this challenging time.
Despite all of the challenges Sophia has faced she still remains the bravest happiest girl. Her smile lights up a room and her little laugh is contagious. She is the best niece anyone could ask for. Thank you to all who have supported them over the years and thank you to those who choose to contribute here!
