Dear Sonya’s Friends,
We are two of Sonya’s many friends that she has shared her love, kindness, generosity and most of all- given some of her sparkle. As all of you know Sonya is one of the most beautiful people placed in our lives. If you have known Sonya in your lifetime, you have been blessed. From her family and friends to her students, patients, coworkers and more, she has truly impacted so many. She has supported all of us, through good times and bad, without a single hesitation. Sonya has given us all strength when we were weak, as well as hope when we were down. Her giving and compassionate heart has touched us all through her spectacular gifts, parties, companionship leaving us only to feel special and loved. It’s now our time to rally and spread our strength to her.
It’s been a whirlwind these past two weeks. After some abnormal labs, Sonya was sent to a hematologist where additional labs and a bone marrow biopsy was performed.
Sonya’s bone marrow biopsy confirmed that she has AML- Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
Sonya’s AML is an aggressive acting cancer.
Today April 29th, Sonya was admitted to the hospital for treatment. This treatment will last 45 days. During this treatment there will be additional bone marrow biopsies to monitor progress. This will determine next steps with hopes for a bone marrow transplant followed by remission.
Sonya was reluctant to let us put this out there, but we reminded her how much everyone loves her and would want to help in some way.
Let’s lift Sonya and her family up by our thoughts and prayers. We know these weeks will be hard and busy. We also know with all of your thoughts, prayers and encouragement she will get through this and beat AML. After all she is Sonya.
We are planning to have a CaringBridge where people can communicate and share information and stay posted as treatment continues in the next weeks. Tara or I will let you know when it’s up and running.
Thank you for loving, praying and contributing. ❤️
