Hi. My name is Karen. I have 3 children and work part time. The current situation with the cost of living makes things a struggle at times but we manage. I am attempting to raise funds to help pay for my son’s kitten as she has managed to break her back leg (X-ray in photos) and needs surgery to repair it.
My son is neurodivergent and kept asking for another pet. He’d previously had a hamster and he nurtured him for his 2 and a half years of life and was devastated when he passed away. My neighbours cat had kittens so she kindly let him have one. We took her a bit earlier because the mother cat was struggling with them. The kitten was eating and drinking well and we were close to mum cat if the need should arise but the kitten has been fine.
On Saturday evening she was happily playing with a ball when we heard a thud. We had no clue what had happened but it seems Nala (the kitten) has likely jumped and landed wrong. We noted she was clearly in pain and limping on her hind left leg so I put her into a pet carrier to limit activity. On Tuesday I got the vet to see her. I was told I had done the right thing by limiting her activity just incase it had been a sprain. He left us with some painkillers for her and arranged to revisit Thursday to see if there was any improvement in how she was walking as he was concerned about a potential break. He came back Thursday and although Nala did seem to be walking a little better decided to opt for some X-rays as she had quite an amount of swelling.
I left her at the vets on Friday for the X-rays. The vet called me once he had the results.
Her leg is clearly broken. And the bone is displaced. Because of the gap in the bone Nala isn’t in pain but they will be repairing the leg once she is big enough to handle the anaesthesia and her bones have grown enough for there to be a better chance of it not failing. Nala is only 8 weeks and is a very much loved member of our family.
I am reaching out for help with the cost which is going to be in the region of £3000-£4000. As of yet I do not have an exact cost. I will update the amount once I know. The vets are going to remain in contact between now and the surgery to ensure all is ok and will pop in from time to time to see how she is growing so the surgery can be booked as soon as she is bigger enough.
Should this reach a higher amount than is needed I will donate any excess monies to a charity. I will decide which charity should the need arise.
I will say thank you in advance to anyone who donates. Nala is a beautiful addition to our family and all we want is for her to be able to be fixed and be happy. So thank you. From the bottom of my heart.
Karen x
Edited to add: I have just spoken to the vet. Maximum I will need is £2000 and the surgery would take place in about 10 days. Any help appreciated. Thank you
I am editing to add, Nala will be operated on by the lovely Hayloft Mobile Vets based in Burn. They can be contacted for confirmation of this surgery and cost if verification is required. Again, I thank you all
