Sonja Williams for 2019 DCI Weekend

Thank you so much to everyone that has donated. At this point there is definitely enough money to be able to fly her, put her into a hotel, and feed her for the time she will be in Indianapolis. At this point it is likely that any future donations will be made as a donation to the A Corps Booster Club in her name. Sonja communicated to me that that is most likely where she would like the extra funds to go, but that will be her call when I transfer the funds to her.
My name is Miles Eaton, I am from Indianapolis, Indiana and I marched the Blue Devils in 2018. During all days, I managed to stay at Hotel Williams with a wonderful cast of characters who will forever be some of the best and closest friends that I have known or will ever know. Hotel Williams is and will always be part of that “Blue Devils” experience for me. She has impacted scores upon scores of Blue Devils before me and hopefully many more to come. She opened her home to me and embraced me with open arms (quite literally I might add) and said to me “Any friend of Glen (marched 2005) or Perry (marched ’10-’12) is a friend of mine.” I knew from that moment on that I was in a good place.
Sonja has been a giver in more ways than one and saved my skin quite a few times. Whether I left my glasses behind when I boarded the BART, or forgot my mouthpiece, or got locked out of my debit card, she was always there to help me and make sure that I got what I needed. All of these reasons are why I am making this fundraiser, I want to give back to Sonja and to let it be from all the people that she impacted in so many ways through the decades by unofficially adopting a bunch of clueless band kids.
At the post-season banquet, I spoke with Sonja and she mentioned that she had not seen finals in several years, so the money I am looking to raise will be used to purchase a round-trip plane ticket from San Francisco or Oakland to Indianapolis around the time of DCI championships in 2019. Any additional money would be used to help supplement hotel room costs and food needs during her stay in Indianapolis. I am hoping that this can be a trip at no cost for Sonja so that she can see the Blue Devils at the end of the season. Any other funds left over will go to Sonja directly to help keep Hotel Williams running or for her to put into the Booster Club for the A Corps, that would be left to her discretion.
My intention is for this money to be given by people who stayed with Sonja for any amount of time. If my one season to experience Hotel Williams has left me with a feeling of familial love for Sonja, then I know that that cannot be unique to me alone. Sonja is an important woman for so many people and this can be just one way for all of us to give back to her.
