Sonja Vogel (Shmidheiser) Stroke Recovery Fund
Donation protected
On October 18, 2022 our friend Sonja suffered a series of strokes (TIA and hemorrhagic) and was airlifted to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Doctors diagnosed a very large blood clot in her brain and advised against surgery. The plan is to monitor the clot and allow it to shrink over the course of the next 4 months. On Tuesday, November 1, 2022 Sonja was moved to Marianjoy in-patient rehab facility in Wheaton, Illinois, to be closer to her family for the remainder of her recovery.
Sonja is improving a little every day. She can speak, has feeling on both sides, and can walk assisted for short periods of time. She'll be working intensively with occupational and physical therapy for the next few months to recover.
All funds go directly to Sonja, Nick and their 3 young boys and will be used to cover medical costs, loss of income, and unforeseen expenses during this time.
Whether you know Sonja from Virginia, the University of Iowa, Roosevelt, working for small town newspapers, Chicago hospital administration, or her current neighborhood in Sugar Grove, you know that she is equal to any challenge ahead of her. She is one of the hardest working, most brilliant people I know, with a sense of humor and wit that we are all looking forward to seeing again. Please consider donating to help support Sonja and her family at this time. Thank you!
