Help the Simpson's cover funeral costs

On 20 February this year, the world lost Sonja Simpson (affectionately known as Son, Sonn, or Stompy Elf to a few…).
To those who knew her, Sonja was quiet, witty, friendly, intelligent, determined and patient. To her parents Jackie and Dave, Sonja was their beloved daughter and light. To her husband Scott, Sonn was his partner in crime, his true love. To her little girl Erica (8, affectionately known as EJ), Sonja was Mummy.
Those who knew Sonja, knew she had been sick. She had survived a bone marrow transplant in 2012 to treat & beat Hodgkins Lymphoma and following EJ’s birth in 2016, threw herself into running to compete at the World Transplant Games.
The transplant left her with a number of ongoing health concerns, which is why she was excited to be listed as an active candidate for a lung transplant in 2024. She was subsequently delisted when her health was embattled with infections, viruses, medications and, eventually, much to her absolute disdain, diabetes… but in spite of this, and through brute force determination she managed to get re-listed just before Christmas.
Even though Sonja had been ill for a while (she had spent her fair share in hospital over the past 12 months), she was also actively working.
When she wasn’t working, she was cherishing as much time with EJ as possible. In her words, “As a Mum, I want to be a good role model for Erica, show her if you have a goal and work hard you can achieve almost anything.” Erica was her pride, her joy and priority.
Her death not two weeks ago shocked all who knew her. Everyone expected her to have more time. Sonja expected to have more time. To prepare how she wanted to go out on her terms. To prepare for Erica.
If only she had more time.
This GoFundMe is supported by Sonja’s many friends and has been endorsed by Scott to help take the pressure off funeral costs and to allow him to spend more time at home with Erica so he can provide the stability and routine she will need as they navigate their way through this awful time.
Our goal is to raise $20,000. If you can help, your support and generosity would mean so much.
