Sonja Reed Scherf: Injury Recovery Funds

On June 29th, my sweet cousin, Sonja (Reed) Scherf, received critical injuries to her right forearm and lower leg. This injury resulted in a severed artery in her lower leg and half of her right calf getting torn off. Her injuries resulted in a major loss of blood, requiring a transfusion of 5 units of blood.
Fortunately, she was transported quickly to the hospital and received life saving medical care.
Sonja will be released after spending nine days in the hospital but she faces many months of healing. After her wounds are sufficiently healed, she will need to have skin graft surgeries and physical therapy to restore function to her leg. This means she will be unable to work for many months and will not have a source of income.
After Sonja is released from the hospital, she will temporarily move in with my sister, Lisa Hoffman, until the wounds are sufficiently healed and Sonja can care for them by herself.
Sonja currently does not have medical insurance.
She is in need of immediate financial help. We are trying to raise enough money to pay for supplies and services she will need to care for her injuries. She will have to compromise the type of treatment on her leg because she has no way of paying for the rental of a wound vac which would help close the wound a lot faster.
She has bills to pay each month and we would like to help her meet her financial obligations until she can get on her feet and start working again.
All donations will be put to good use and it will be greatly appreciated.
Anyone who knows Sonja, knows that she is a happy, kind, friendly, and upbeat person. This incident has taken an immense emotional toll on her. She is a brave lady but she has a lot of emotional pain in addition to the physical pain with which she is dealing.
