Sonido Dueñez is a legendary cumbia DJ and sound system operator from Colonia Independencia, Monterrey, MX. He is most known his edits and rare tape series of cumbias "rebajadas" (slowed-down tracks), which have gone to influence producers, DJs and musicians and cumbia movements around the world.
On December 2022, Don Gabriel Dueñez suffered a stroke that has required significant effort physically, financially and emotionally from his close family, as he provided steady income for the Dueñez Family through his sound system activities.
Don Gabriel just turned 78, and we want to celebrate this new chapter by creating a mutual aid fund that will provide ongoing stability for his retirement and to lead dignified life with his family.
This fund would be used for:
* Direct support for Don Gabriel Dueñez's geriatric medical expenses and basic needs
* Medically necessary improvements to his room, considering his mobility and supporting his struggle with motor skills
* Contributing to an initial fund kickstarter for the Sonido Dueñez Shop and improving the Dueñez Archive ensuring ongoing legacy and income for years to come
* Contributing to preparations for further fundraising tribute events to Sonido Dueñez's art and craft, to be held in Monterrey, Nuevo León in Summer 2025 (TBD dates to be announced)
Contributions made through this platform will be deposited to a debit card managed by the family living with Don Gabriel, with receipts shared with community. Direct transfers to this account can also be made (with prior notice).

En diciembre del 2022, Don Gabriel Dueñez sufrió un accidente cerebrovascular que ha requerido de un esfuerzo importante para la familia cercana, impidiendo las labores habituales sonideras que permitían un ingreso asegurado para la Casa de la Familia Dueñez. Don Gabriel acaba de cumplir 78 años y queremos celebrar este nuevo ciclo con un fondo que permita estabilidad para su retiro y una vida digna.
Este fondo se usaría para las siguientes labores:
* Apoyo directo a Don Gabriel Dueñez para sus gastos médicos geriátricos y necesidades básicas.
* Mejoras en su habitación, que consideren su movilidad y aporten a sus facultades motrices.
* Aportar a un fondo inicial para la Tiendita Sonido Dueñez y la mejora del Archivo Dueñez.
* Contribuir a los preparativos para el homenaje al arte y oficio de Sonido Dueñez a realizarse en Monterrey, Nuevo León en Verano del 2025 (fechas por anunciar).
Las aportaciones que se hagan en la plataforma de crowdfunding se depositarán en una tarjeta de débito que estará en custodia de la familia que vive con Don Gabriel y también se podrán hacer transferencias directas a esa cuenta (con previo aviso).
