Sonia’s Journey – The heart wrenching fight continues against re-occurring Ependymoma Anaplastic Brain Tumours! We need your help!
This is beautiful Sonia. She is 17 years old and currently trying to undertake her final year of high school.
From the day Sonia was born there was just something so special about her. A gorgeous girl inside and out and mature beyond her years, a child who always had a smile on her face and loved being the apple of her parents eyes.
Sonia is my bestfriend Maryanne's daughter. She and her sister Celina are like our own.

8 years ago just prior to travelling on a dream family holiday Sonia just wasn’t herself. Not knowing what was potentially lying ahead of them it was put down to nervousness and general anxiety. So off they went on their holiday where our darling Sonia was sick pretty much the whole time.
Upon coming home, a quick trip to their pediatrician turned their whole world upside down. Sonia was sent directly to the children’s hospital in Randwick where she was diagnosed with an Ependymoma Anaplastic Brain Tumour.
Devastated and left in a whirlwind of disbelief and shock this beautiful family’s world came crushing down. Initially being told to go home and enjoy your child was a crushing blow and one that her parents refused to accept.
Both realist’s it was time to begin Sonia’s brave and courageous battle. Sonia now in the prime of her life is dealing with more than any human should. In the last 8 years she has undergone 5 re-occurrences, 7 operations, and countless radiation and chemo treatments. Yet she’s still smiling and trying to live as a normal teenager should.
After yet another re-occurrence in late 2016 and no options left for treatment in Australia, the desperate search began. We finally stumbled across a trial in the USA suited to Sonia’s condition. You know when they say timing is everything, well in time of despair and desperation this grace of God came Sonia’s way.
Praying for a miracle every day we live in hope that our prayers are finally being answered with this new medical trial.
The name of the trial is “Infusion of 5-Azacytidine (5-AZA) Into the Fourth Ventricle in Children with Recurrent Posterior Fossa Ependymoma.” And it is as complicated as it sounds. We are hoping that this innovative trial that will be performed by Dr David Sandberg, MD will give our beautiful girl the life she craves and deserves - Malignant Tumour Free!
Upon hearing that this trial is not funded by the USA Government, Sonia’s nearest and dearest stepped in and decided that we wanted to take away the family’s financial burden of $300,000. Setting up our GoFundMe fundraiser “Sonia’s Journey”.
Medical trials do not come cheap. We are hoping with your generosity, “Sonia’s Journey” GoFundMe Collection will pay for this trial and all that is necessary to get Sonia and her family over to the USA and help during the trials 3 month duration. The donations will go straight into the upfront payment that is required to go ahead for Sonia's treatment, travel costs and accomodation.
Sonia and her family are heading off to the USA in the next couple of weeks. Hence the urgency.
Please join in supporting our beautiful Sonia’s Journey.

Please keep her in your prayers and thank you in advance for your kindness, may kindness come your way also.
