Our goal
Our goal is to raise £2,000 which will enable to us to buy 4 student tabla sets and 2 student harmoniums to use in schools, community workshops and classes! This will allow our students and participants to get hands-on with these beautiful South Asian instruments and allow us to loan instruments to budding instrumentalists who can’t afford their own.
We believe getting up-close with real instruments is the best way to experience South Asian music and gives our participants the best start on their own musical journeys!
Why is this important?
The political and economic climate over the last few years and the resulting budget cuts and cost-of-living crisis has meant that music education is harder than ever to access. It’s also a time when social, emotional and mental health issues are at an all-time high, but music can be part of the solution to these society-wide challenges!
There are numerous scientific studies showing the myriad benefits of music, and particularly musical education! The benefits range from:
- the academic - improved attention and memory recall, speech perception, literacy numeracy and language skills,
- to life skills - developing teamwork, rigor, self-discipline, creativity, problem-solving and emotional intelligence,
- and wellbeing - building resilience, opportunities for self-reflection, feelings of community and belonging!
By donating to our instrument fundraiser, you’ll be helping us to share these life-enhancing benefits with people from all walks of life through our music programmes.
