Hi,

My name is Talis Petropoulos and I am creating this fundraiser to raise money to help cover the expenses of Sonia’s funeral, and any other expenses that her family may need assistance with during this difficult time.

Sonia and I met in high school during my freshman year, almost 12 years ago. She quickly became one of my closest friends throughout our adolescence, and we continued to stay in touch and see each other when she was able to come home and visit.

She had such a bright light within her that continues to shine through the memories her friends and family have the privilege to look back on.

Sonia was a great friend and daughter, and she brought so much love and joy to the people around her. She would light up any room with her amazing smile, and always find ways to be goofy and make people laugh. She was there when her loved ones needed her, and would always be very straightforward and unapologetically herself; I will always admire this about her. Not only was Sonia an incredible friend and family member, but also incredibly intelligent and talented.

Words cannot express how great of a loss this is to her loved ones, and to the world. Her memory will live on through us, and we should all remember to share our stories with each other. Grief is the most painful component of love; the price we pay for having the privilege to experiencing its beauty. I hope everyone who is grieving Sonia right now remembers to be kind to themselves, to check in on each other, and finds comfort in the thought that Sonia is now at peace and watching over us all.

At the time of her death, Sonia was living in Spain where she taught English. Unfortunately, the costs to bring her home would range between $7,000-$8,000, that is on top of the costs of funeral services. I’m not sure what the estimated total would be, but Go Fund Me recommended $16,000 for a funeral (without the expensive transport).
