Song Sparrow Farm Flood Recovery Fund

I am a farm crew member at the small and beautiful Song Sparrow Farm in Florence, MA. On Monday, July 10th, Song Sparrow’s fields were submerged under feet of water. The farm has been severely damaged by the flooding. As we enter peak harvest season, most of our crops are unsalvageable, and we are waiting to assess what the long-term effects of the flood will be on the land and soil.

We so appreciate the outpouring of love and support from other farms in the community, from folks coming to say hello and buy salads and produce from us at farmers markets, and from the crews of volunteers who have been helping us move debris from the farm.

Still, though, this flooding has caused irreparable damage and is a huge setback for a small, naturally grown, sustainable farm like ours.

I’m personally grateful and feel lucky to work for Song Sparrow Farm owner, Toni Hall, who works tirelessly to farm for a better future. We are a small group of queer and trans folks who use climate-friendly farming to nourish our community. We are grateful to farm on this land, and hope to continue to do so. I’m hoping this fund can help Song Sparrow and its employees stay afloat as we continue to adapt to the unpredictable and dangerous climate crisis we are living in.

We are up for the challenge, and with your support, we will continue to be at farmers markets around the valley, build new infrastructure at Song Sparrow, plant vegetables again, and find creative ways to thrive. Thank you, thank you to this beautiful community we are a part of.
