Song Needs Surgery

As many of my friends may know, Song has had a pretty rough life. She was found barely alive on the side of the highway in north west New Mexico in July of 2023, in the midst of the heatwave. She was emaciated and struggled to walk, but was still quick to try and defend her puppy. When Song came to live with me, it quickly became apparent that something was wrong besides how emaciated she was. That's when we discovered Song had severe pneumonia and tick fever. After months of treatment, the pneumonia finally cleared. This would be really great news, but unfortunately, this is when we found out Song was also suffering from a diaphragmatic hernia. The infection in her chest cavity was hiding the fact that several loops of intestines were in the left side of her chest, pushing on her lungs.

After consultation with several veterinarians, we have decided to pursue surgery. Without it, she runs the risk of developing ischemic bowel and continued infection. The hernia also appears to be impacting her heart function. Song has an appointment on Wednesday, October 18th, with a board certified veterinary surgeon in Albuquerque, NM. This is a complicated surgery and we are looking at a cost between $6-8,000. I am fundraising to help cover the cost.

Song is such a loving, gentle dog, who deserves a shot at a full, healthy life. She's already fought so hard. Please help me give her this chance.
