Sometimes Cancer Strikes Twice

Donation protected
A cancer diagnosis is devastating, but to fight cancer and go into remission should be a victory worth celebrating.  Unfortunately, my dear friend Tanya is unable to celebrate her victory, because last month, she and her husband Charles received the very shocking news that HE has cancer.  He was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia and was immediately hospitalized for aggressive treatment and chemotherapy.  Since Tanya is still on disability herself, and Charles is now receiving a fraction of his salary, the medical bills are mounting.  If you have never been in this situation, I can attest, insurance will pick up your charges only when you hit their out of pocket maximum.  For Tanya's family, that's nearly $8000 that they are responsible for out of pocket.  Add to that the cost of raising their son, paying their mortgage, and other expenses, this second cancer diagnosis will hit as hard financially as it does medically.

Charles is a wonderful husband and father.  He has worked hard all of his life, and when Tanya was diagnosed with cancer, he was the first one to step up, and start fundraising for Ovarian Cancer on her behalf.  Through his efforts, and his recruitment of his employers to support his fundraising, he was able to raise over $10,000 for the Duke Cancer Institute.  When Tanya had recovered, she, too, raised money for research, and has spent her time educating friends and family on ovarian cancer.  Before Charles' diagnosis, they were cancer research fundraising warriors!!

As professionals, as people who have spent the last few years contributing to cancer research, they find themselves in a very awkward position of needing help now.  How do you ask your friends and family for help for yourself this time?

I have created this Go Fund Me campaign for Tanya and Charles, with their support.  I have known Tanya since our freshman year of high school, many, many years ago, and it pains me greatly that her family is facing this same challenge AGAIN, when they should be celebrating her remission.  Any amount will help, and if you are unable to help them financially, your prayers and positive thoughts are very much appreciated.
