This is Doug. He is my brother-in-law, my friend, my sister's husband of 40 years. His daughters call him Dad, his grandchildren call him Poppi, and his friends call him dependable. In our family, we call him a HERO. He is the person you know you can call no matter what time of day it is he will come to your aid.
Doug is a good man who loves his family and friends. As long as I have known Doug, he and my sister have worked three to four jobs at a time. They are not takers - they are givers. Giving all they have and more to the ones they love and even to those they don’t know, but see that they are in need. Everyone in their town will tell you, Donna and Doug are the most caring and generous couple around.
As 2020 has impacted so many families I know it is hard to ask for help, but I must... as I know my brother in law and sister Donna won't. Doug has been diagnosed with pancreatic (Acinar cell carcinoma) and Liver cancer as if that was not bad enough he also has a RARE syndrome called Pancreatitis, Panniculitis and Polyarthritis (PPP). Doug's main job was as custodian in the town of Meriden for over thirty - five years and just got to retire from that position last year only to be struck down with this illness.
This debilitating condition has kept him in the hospital for over 50 days. He can no longer walk on his own and the pain has made it nearly impossible to eat causing him to lose over 50 lbs. The bills for his hospital stay and treatment are now coming in and they need any help you can give.
If you can find it in your heart to contribute to this fund, we can help reduce Doug's medical bills. The total is exceeding what his insurance will cover and the amount owed is growing fast.
While we do not know how much longer he will be in the hospital, or what the future holds, we DO know that it’s time to give back to the couple who has given so much to all of us, as well as perfect strangers. I am hoping that the time has now come when people will do the same for him.
