Hi, my name is Ryan, and I am raising money to create handmade chunky knit blankets for patients at St Peter's Hospice, a place that has become incredibly close to my heart.

Late last year, someone very dear to me was diagnosed with terminal cancer which started in their lung. At the time, we were told they may only have around six months. Despite everything, they chose to fight and they fought with everything they had.

After radiotherapy, we were given hope through immunotherapy, and we all prayed it would give us more time together. But as time went on, more hospital stays were needed, and eventually we received the call every family dreads, the cancer had spread and we needed to come to the hospital.

From that point on, it became about keeping them comfortable and making the most of every precious moment. Their final wish was to spend their last days at St Peter’s Hospice.

Me, along with others who loved them dearly, made sure someone was by their side day and night. Watching someone you love slowly lose their independence, mobility, and even their speech is something I would never wish upon anyone. It truly showed me how much we take the simplest things in life for granted.

Very recently, they sadly lost their fight.

During those final days, the care she received from St Peter’s Hospice was beyond anything I could have imagined. Every single member of staff treated them, and all of us, with such kindness, compassion, dignity, and care. They did absolutely everything possible to make sure they were comfortable and never alone. I will never forget what they did for us during the hardest time of our lives.

Before they passed, I made them a handmade chunky knit blanket. Throughout their illness, it became something they used every single day to keep warm and comfortable. Knowing that something handmade with love brought even a small amount of comfort means everything to me.

That is why I want to give back.

My goal is to raise money to create and donate handmade chunky knit blankets to patients at St Peter’s Hospice, so that others going through unimaginably difficult times can have a little warmth and comfort too.

Every donation, no matter how small, will help provide materials to make these blankets and support a hospice that means so much to me and my family.
