Our 2-year-old black Lab “Smokey” was resting peacefully at home when he was shot with a .22 rifle, leaving him with a shattered leg and severe jaw injuries. We’re fighting to save him, but we can’t do it alone.

On what should have been a normal afternoon at home, Smokey was lying in the shade when the unthinkable happened. A neighbor shot him with a .22 caliber rifle. Smokey wasn’t chasing anyone or acting aggressively. He was simply lying on his back, relaxing in our yard. The bullet shattered his left front leg, and fragments of the bullet traveled into his mouth, striking a back molar and driving it into his upper jaw.

We rushed him to the emergency veterinarian, where he fought through surgery and treatment. Because every second mattered, we did whatever we had to do to save him—even earning a speeding ticket on the drive to the emergency clinic. So far we’ve already spent over $3,500 just to stabilize him. Thankfully… Smokey survived. But he isn’t out of the woods yet. He now needs specialized jaw surgery from a veterinary specialist located five hours from home, and we’re expecting another $3,500 or more in medical expenses.

Smokey is only 2 years old. He has his whole life ahead of him, and we’re determined to give him every chance to recover. Anyone who has hunted with a Labrador knows they aren’t just dogs—they’re family. Smokey is our hunting partner, our best friend, and a member of our family who didn’t deserve any of this.

Every donation, no matter the amount, will go directly toward:
* Emergency veterinary bills
* Specialized jaw surgery
* Follow-up veterinary care
* Medications
* Rehabilitation and recovery

If you’re unable to donate, simply sharing Smokey’s story means more than you know. From the bottom of our hearts… Thank you for helping give Smokey a chance to heal.
