Somali Faces: Mother and 8 Children

Dear brothers and sisters,
Somali Faces has interviewed and shared personal stories of a great number of Somalis from across the globe but none has captured the hearts of our followers the way this beautiful Somali mother did. We recently interviewed her in Somalia and captured her ordeal in words, allowing her to open up to us. She is a distressed single Somali mother with 8 children who faced discriminatory acts in her own country; simply for belonging to a minority clan and and for the level of melanin in her skin (skin colour). Her suicidal thoughts haven’t escaped us and our followers.
She is a hard working mother, illustrating the work ethnic of the typical Somali mother, raising eight beautiful children; none of them are at school, instead, they are forced to help their mother by finding any job that they can get their hands on in order to bring some money in. She spends most of her time working as a maid for different local families. Depending on the days, sometimes she is lucky and is employed, other times she waits, idly waiting for the next (fortunate) day. Her heartbreaking story that we shared with our followers has forced us to raise some needed funds, just in time for Ramadan. Every donation makes a difference, the more we give sadaqah (charity) and share our feeling to the poor the more we increase our faith (eemaan) and thus, expect God’s rewards both in this world and in the life HereAfter. We ask that you donate generously.
