Somalia/Buuhoodle Women & Children

Dear brothers and sisters,
Our names are Naima and Najma Qambi, and we are part of the Somali youth living in Columbus, Ohio. With the current drought in Somalia, there is heartbreaking news at every corner, and specifically from the rural town of Buuhoodle, which we are originally from. Buuhoodle was hit hard by the drought and is currently suffering from an outbreak of Cholera. The most vulnerable populations in the region (women, children, and the elderly), are most affected by this infectious disease. Because there is a lack of medication and clean water, many of these cases lead to death. Each day is an opportunity for us to take part in efforts to help alleviate the suffering of women and children in the Horn of Africa.

Somalia is currently facing one of the worst droughts in the countries history. UNICEF lists Somalia among four nations where they say a total of 1.4 million children could die of severe acute malnutrition as famine looms.
The most vulnerable populations are those people in rural areas, like Buuhoodle. Buuhoodle is located in the northern region of Somali, next to the Ethiopian border. With the recent drought, there has been an outbreak of Cholera affecting thousands of people, mostly women, children, and the elderly. This adds even more urgency to the situation, with the need for medications being a top priority. Because Buuhoodle is a rural town, it does not have easy access to NGO's and international relief agencies. It is up to us as citizens of the world to provide where we are able to.
According to the United Nations, "Somalia is in the grip of an intense drought, induced by two consecutive seasons of poor rainfall. In the worst-affected areas, inadequate rainfall and lack of water has wiped out crops and killed livestock, while communities are being forced to sell their assets, and borrow food and money to survive."
Who will be dispersing the funds:
In order to help with current efforts, we will be parterning with Najib Health Organization (NHO), a nonprofit based in Norway. This non-profit was started and is currently headed by a relative and native from the town of Buuhoodle. The mission of NHO is to "help better the lives of mothers & children in war torn Buuhoodle, Somalia." I (Naima) will be drawing the funds in my name and will send the funds via check so NHO. The director of this non-profit will then be sending funds via wire transfer directly to their team on the ground in Buuhoodle, who will then purchase the necessary resources and disperse it to the people.
Where will the donations go:
- 100% of proceeds will go towards the people of Buuhoodle, and aid in the purchase of:
*food
*water
*medication
*temporary shelters
*funeral services/coffins
