Somali Students Fundraising For Water for Somalia

Hi,

 

My name is Idil, and I am an Assistant Principal in St. Paul, MN. A group of my brilliant high school students came to my office a couple of days ago with an idea that brought tears to my eyes. They said, " Ms. Hassan, we want to help our community in Somalia".

 

My school is about 98% Somali and many of my amazing scholars have a close connection with our home country. During the month of Ramadan, which is known for doing good deeds for those in need, we are hoping to fundraise money to send water to Somalia.

 

Somalia is going through one of the worst droughts that they have seen in 4 decades. Over 4.5 million Somalis, including 1.4 million children are being severely impacted by this drought. In a society where we take an abundance of clean water and food for granted, it is imperative that we share those resources with others who are literally dying.
